In terms of content Lectures to my students was five stars. Other reviewers have given their thoughts on the content, I would recommend looking to a different review for comments on content. But in terms of the editing in the kindle version (from "fig publishers" or " fig tree publishers") which was $1 the typos seem to increase as the book goes on. It needs editing, even an quick browse by the publishers through each chapter would suffice to catch many typos..There were parts I had no idea what the sentence conveyed, because a word was missing. In fact many parts like that. The misspellings and typos, we're distracting, especially in the later parts of the book.I bought this Kindle edition with excitement because it was only one dollar; perhaps I should have bought another publishers edition.

This had it's ups and downs, some chapters were better than others, but it was a very useful tool to spark discussion in our church's leadership class.A note about the Kindle edition: The publisher did a terrible job transferring this to e-book format. It would appear that they did this by scanning and using OCR, but did no proofreading. There are a number of errors that range from frustrating to amusing. In most places you can glean what was being communicated, but there are others where you can't. Some chapters are without errors while others are full of them. My rating reflects only the content, not the 'delivery' in the form of the Kindle version.

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it for anyone in the ministry or entering the ministry. There are countless gems of insight and anecdotes by Spurgeon of his own experience, fellow ministers, and great men of God in days gone by. Each section is a precise snapshot of how old school, revival, God-entranced, Word-centered, Spirit-empowered ministry should be. There is great inspiration to be found here that challenges you to go deeper in your personal devotion in order to be more fruitful publicly. But what really amazed me was the practical advice that was given in every area of ministry from private to public prayer to sermon writing and delivery. Very insightful; and I am thankful to have gleaned these truths from the prince of preachers. The first 6 chapters are particularly captivating as they describe the essence of the minister and what his character and he in himself should be. Also worthy of special note is the chapter near the end on spiritual depression of the pastor/preacher; it is quite valuable. This is one of my top 5 books. All of Spurgeon's works are worth the effort and resources to secure (such as his autobiography, commentary on Psalms called Treasury of David, salvific work titled All of Grace, and monumental 63 volume sermon set :), but that is not always feasible. If you were to have only one book by Spurgeon, I would say this should be it.As has been said in the other more negative reviews: the presentation is not that great (this is the bibliobazar edition). The book itself looks very clean and sharp; it's a good size too, which I appreciate (just has a good hold and feel in your hands as you read). BUT, the type size is extremely small and the font is just okay. There are little spot marks and smudges in some places (though the text remains legible), due to the book being a photocopy of an earlier print. Also, this is only the first volume of what is a 4 volume set (comprised of Lecture Series 1,2, and 3 and "Commenting and Commentaries"), the whole of which can be found here on Amazon in one convenient edition. Just search for the ISBN 978-0851519661 and you'll find it (notice the page count compared to all the others; the complete version clocks in at a whopping 911 pages). The full edition is produced by Baker and is very high quality.Lastly, as this material dates back to the 1800s and is therefore open source, free PDFs of each Lectures series are available. Just search "lectures to my students pdf" and they should come up.

This book rarely goes out of print and I am please to see it in digital format. These classic Christian lectures that Charles Haddon Spurgeon delivered to his seminary students years ago remain just as highly applicable and informative today as they did in his day, and perhaps even more so in that the need may be greater in this age than his. Regardless, no serious student of the Bible, pupil of preaching or disciple of the Master would want to be without this wonderful compendium of the Prince of Preacher's lectures.

This is a theologically very informative work by the prince of preachers. A must for every Christians library.

I skimmed through this book. I am not ready to read it right now; but, I see that it is going to be a great help to understanding what Spurgeon ready meant in some of the quotes that I have read. Thanks.

This book should be required reading for anyone who wants to be in a teaching/preaching role in a church. While some of the content is dated and irrelevant (we now have microphones, indoor heating and AC), the bulk of the information is timeless. Spurgeon is transparent and authentic in a way few preachers are today.

I'd never read Spurgeon's stuff before.Wow. I mean Wow.Not only the content, but how the issues that he was facing with doctrine (Downgrade Controversy) are the same challenges we face in evangelicalism today. This really is a 'must read' for every seminary student, pastor, and minister/servant of the gospel of Christ. You will be blessed in reading this book.
