I got this as part of my preparation for GMAT. After buying a GMAT study guide from another provider I realized I can't even do long division, manual subtraction, prime factorization. So if you are like me and need to start off with something very basic then start here. That being said, it is not just your basic 4th/5th grade math workbook. Every chapter starts off with the basics, then moves on to how that concept will be used in GMAT and builds up from there. If you are weak in Math (or very very calculator dependent) then start here then move on to GMAT study guides like Kaplan or official GMAT guide. I now force myself to do long division in my head or figure out how much a dress will cost me if its 40% off without the help of a calculator.
This review is for kindle edition. Content of the book is good but it simply doesn’t display well on the kindle or in kindle apps on iOS. For instance, exponents and integers tend to be indistinguishable. And the way problems are laid out and diagrammed, they almost always get split between pages or cut off along the edge. I also find myself wanting to write in the margins and solve the end of section questions in the book, but this is not possible on kindle, so either pad and paper or flipping back and forth between a notes app is required. If I had a do-over, I’d trade the kindle version for a physical book in a heartbeat.
I normally doubt myself in Math but the foundations is so so easy that anyone should be able to understand this material (with a decent Math experience with Algebra). I would recommend the Advanced version because that is perfect,harder and inspiring (in terms of how to come with solutions)
The quality and content of the book seems great for my purposes (namely, two months to study for the GMAT when I haven't taken a math class in ten years). However, the Kindle edition is pretty much useless. Even if you enlarge the text and widen the page, there are images that you can't zoom in on that contain important equations (see screenshot of Kindle PC app). And in a math book, that's kind of a deal-breaker. Looking forward to receiving my paperback edition of this wonderful book!
Look up the antonym of Mathematician, and there you'll find my portrait. This book is an absolute prerequisite for a math illiterate like me to even begin to tackle any of the other GMAT study guides (OG, MP). Still a ways away but we'll get there, slowly but surely, with this resource.
I found this book to be an above average resource. Manhattan prep provides good insight and the practice questions are very similar to the real test. Highly Recommended.
Excellent GMAT math review book. This is an instruction math book with practice questions as well.
