I have bought books similar to this one many times over the years, but this one is the poorest quality of them all. The print is smaller than usual and, to add insult to injury, that small print is also a light black. One needs to have young eyes and perfect vision to be able to do these puzzles without eye strain. I chose this because it is a recent printing (2017) which is difficult to find in a bookstore, but at least I can see the print in that 2005 puzzle book. Not happy and will not buy sight unseen (meaning Amazon) again.
These are real brain-busters, at least for me, and I like a challenge. They often include an unexpected twist; for example, to solve one Valentine's Day puzzle, I had to insert the whole word "love" into one square of long, them-related answers. If the L.A. Times Sunday crosswords have gotten too easy for you, try these.
A couple of typos, most of one of the puzzles was numbered completely wrong (grid didn't match the numbered clues after the first 5 or 6). But overall, nobody bats 1000. Excellent overall
Large format book is nice for my old man, he don't see so good no more. He can't get thru any of 'em but gets a good start on all of 'em.
I ordered this 200 puzzle book in September. I just finished the 500 Omnibus book so I took this one out. It should come with a lighted magnifying glass, the print is that small. It is beyond the time that I can return it so I'll have to find someone with good eyes to give it to. if the rest of the NY Times Sunday crosswords are like this, guess my crossword days are over. Don't buy this unless you have extremely good eyesight.
These crosswords seem to be much harder to do quickly - the answers are the same but the clues are a bit of a stretch - you need to think a good ways out of the box for this volume. I really enjoy the challenge of this volume.
sunday crosswords from 2009 - 2017 - not too hard not too soft - just right.After a week of trying to figure out the trick of #136, I finally gave up and found out the grid was completely screwed up in the reprinting.
I'm a daily Sunday Times puzzler. I've tried many, but this is my favorite. I keep track of my time and figure my average--26+. Occasionally I can't finish one, which is the level of challenge I prefer. The omnibuses are a great deal--I've done every one.
