I'm in school for fashion design. I prefer the PANTONE book over the fashionary book. While we learn how to make our own croquis, it's just so much easier using the sketchpad for quick renders.There are multiple poses and sizes, great information in the front. I think it's a must for any inspiring designer
Great sketchbook! I am terrible at drawing my own croquis so this book made designing 150x more productive. I’m a fine art photographer by trade and very new at dress making. I am very picky about what my models wear so I decided to start designing my own custom gowns from scratch. This book has lots of small figures to sketch ideas quickly, and big ones to have more detail involved. Absolutely perfect for playing around with ideas and themes. I wish it was a little more organized (one page of 2 large croquis per page of 4 small would be nice instead of every two or sometimes three) or if there were standard pages of figures, it seems pretty random. Not a big deal, not at all a deal breaker for me. I have been so much more productive and am very happy to have a book designed specifically for this, and not designed for children only.
I'm an amateur artist. I took a fashion illustration course a few years ago and ended up frustrated. It was really hard to get into and my results weren't satisfying. I didn't pick up a pencil for a few years. Then I decided to try again with a fashion sketchbook. I found this while looking for a recommended sketchpad, and decided to buy this over the one I was looking for.The spiral binding is crucial as I can move the book around at all angles. I like the hard cover because it provides a stable base for drawing. The repeating figures might be boring for some, but I like the consistency. I've improved a lot with my confidence thanks to this book. Proportions are easier to maintain with the figures, so I can focus on creating cool designs and not worry about the stuff that gives me art anxiety. There's a ton of pages, so I won't run out any time soon.
Let me just get right to the problem, the book's layout doesn't really allow for use. Your best bet with this book is just to copy the pages if you really want to draw. There is a variety of poses available, but on some pages the figures are so crowded you can only draw bodysuits. Lastly (and this book isn't the only culprit), in this era of women taking everything to task about perpetuating stereotypes and unrealistic beauty standards I'm shocked this book hasn't been taken off the market. The templates are so thin it's disturbing.
I bought this for my 7 year old daughter. She likes to draw but gets frustrated because her drawings aren't realistic. This gives a great base for her to go nuts with her creativity. Actually the clothes she comes up with are pretty awesome, maybe I have a future designer on my hands!
Nice book offering croquis for drawing and gives the standard of color in multiple industries-pantone colors as well. Great resource.
Bigger than expected. About the size of a 13" laptop.
Bought 4 of this type of workbook at the same time, so I'm going to cut-and-pasted this review for all 4, because each is useful and inspiring it its own way, and can boost productivity.
