~4/5Years and years ago, I borrowed several volumes of this series from a friend. I vaguely remembered liking it, but most of it was blurry. And after finishing Azumanga Daioh and realizing it was the same author, I quickly added this to my list. Reading Barakamon just made me want to start this series sooner.This series stars Yotsuba. She lives alone with her dad, and she’s a relatively naïve little girl. The two move to a new town, and she quickly makes friends with her neighbors--three sisters and their mother. Plus her father’s friend, Jumbo, comes around a lot.Already, I’m finding this funny. Yotsuba is a little crazy and exaggerated, learning almost everything for the first time, like air conditioners and global warming. She’s naïve with people and what they tell her, and freaks out when she remembers stranger danger. She tries catching cicadas, then lets them all loose in the house. This is full of hilarity, awkward moments, Yotsuba being her crazy self and her father letting her.I am so glad that I’ve finally started to pick this series up, and will be slowly continuing this series. I actually made a mistake and bought this english version instead of the japanese version. It's still a cute manga though, Once I get a japanese version i'll be able to use it to compare and study japanese.
This the cute introduction to a funny and entertaining series. Five-year-old Yotsuba and her Daddy have just moved to a new place, and it doesn't take long for her to get into some mischief. The stories follow Yotsuba on her adventures as she discovers new things and meets new people while endearing herself to her new neighbors as well as constantly surprising Daddy with the weird-funny things she says! (Of course, some of the dialogue is weird in this book because some things are lost in translation.) I've read the entire series and I enjoyed it so much that I'm adding it to my permanent manga collection. It's rated all ages, so it makes a good first manga for kids or for anyone who is getting familiar with manga as a genre. I recommend this slice-of-life comedy to anyone and everyone!
In case you are wondering, yes, you should buy this... in fact, there are currently 12 books in his series, you will want to buy all of them. Not only is it sickeningly cute from beginning to end, but it has a massive amount of heart and humor that's actually completely G-rated. My sister, who is 16 years younger than me loved it as much as I did, and it was her first manga.
I got my book today. I love it the only reason im giving it a four out of five is the spine on mine is a little more ripped than i thought. I did buy a used product but this was a little more used than i thought it would have been. The spine was worn and there were a few rips and tears which i was a little upset about but overall not too bad . Thanks ~♡
Yotsuba written by Azuma Kiyohiko (author of Azumanga) is one of the best mangas you will read. It is mainly focused on Yotsuba and everyday life, but of course if that were the case it wouldn't be interesting. The real reason why life is so much fun in the manga is because of characters such as Yotsuba, her father, the next door neighbors (Asagi, Fuka, Ena), Jumbo and others* (there are side characters but later on they became part of the main story) There are life lessons and there are fun stories that are realistic and that is one of the main reasons why I think readers can relate and connect with the story/character. This volume and in fact the entire series can be enjoyed by everyone and is recommended for anime, manga and even those who have not read any mangas at all! Please do not overlook this manga as it simply one of the best out there. Once you are done with the first volume, you must simply own all of them (which I do currently up to volume 5)
I have read many Manga titles and this is the only one (so far) that I can easily share with my daughters who are 6 and 9 with no fear of overt sexuality or especially language/violence. Eventually they will get to know all that stuff but for now, it's nice to be able to read something to them without cringing every now and then and having to skip words. This is a wonderful introduction to Manga for anyone really. I am constantly amazed at the art and the characters are all so enjoyable. I read the first eleven volumes of Yotsuba&! and both my daughters were dazzled.
Got this for my oldest niece, and her younger sister, as a way to inspire them to share a similar hobby/interest. They both adored this manga, and they definitely want to read more of it! Great for children, boy or girl, 6 and up!
