The first half of this 200-page book meandered through details of multiple messy relationships, often laced with infidelity. I catch myself rereading the book description to double check that the focus of the book would be adoption. The author finds someone specialâ€”Peterâ€”a married man with teenager daughters. We learn details of Peterâ€™s failed marriage and messy divorce. How embarrassing for Peter, his first wife, and their daughtersâ€”why should they be shamed in someone elseâ€™s memoir? Doesnâ€™t that violate memoir etiquette?Eventually, the focus shifts to having a child and the painful journey to adoption. Enter Bill and Bridgett, a couple who are expecting and trying to find parents for their child. The author (and Peter) want this baby. The story bumps along, vague on adoption details, but soon theyâ€™re at home with their own baby girl! I wanted more about how the relationship between bio-parents and adoptive parents. Instead the focus was heavier on how Peter was a disappointment as a husband and father, and the dissolution of their marriage. Again, lots of Peter shaming. Even if everything said is true, why would anyone bash the father of their child in such a public way? So ugly and unnecessary.Finally, we get to Bill and Bridgett, the bio-parents. They went from just-getting-by to homeless. What stands out about this couple is they donâ€™t ask for anything. They donâ€™t ask to move in, but they accept the offer. Somehow Bill and Bridgett disappoint the author at every turn. They don't make the choices she expects them to make. They won't let her fix them and they back away when the author keeps pushing them to change. The author describes it as them being mad at her. She messaged them for years to get them to talk to her and when they finally agree to her requests for an interview about the adoption, she is devastated because they donâ€™t say what she wants to hear. They chose her to be the mother of their child. Why is that not enough?Bill and Bridgett were self-aware enough to know they shouldnâ€™t raise a child. I wonder if they regret open adoption. I hope they never read this book.

I read this book in a span of hours, eager to hear about the journey to adoption. Instead, it was a very messy tell all focused almost solely on other peopleâ€™s choices or â€œmistakesâ€ (as so judged/perceived by the author). The author spends a lot of time airing her ex-husbands dirty laundry and posturing as a white savior to her daughters birth parents, but at its core, this is so much white privilege wrapped up in mystical wishful thinking and selfishness thinly disguised as â€œgood intentionsâ€. She claims to have spent a ton of time and energy â€œhelpingâ€ her daughters birth parents, but when they finally tell her the truth of their anger and frustration with the adoption system, she has to leave to decompress. That was her chance to help them unpack their trauma and potentially move forward, but I suspect the author still has too much of her own trauma to help anyone else with theirs.One thing that deeply bothered me - she shares an anecdote about how, in her desperation for a baby, she trolled a forum where teenage moms to be posted about their unplanned pregnancies. The author wrote a message to a teen who was weighing her options, gently urging her to consider giving her baby to the author, and was RIGHTFULLY blasted by those who found her disingenuous and borderline manipulative. In my mind, I canâ€™t reconcile that this highly educated person didnâ€™t understand the incredibly ugly implications around propositioning a vulnerable woman in this way. I can only assume she was blinded by her drive for a child. She goes on to say she tried to apologize and reply to the comments, but was banned by the moderator... I suspect she kept a haughty, self-oriented tone instead of empathizing properly with those whose trust she had broken.In many ways, the author shares more about herself than I think she ever intended. She wanted a baby who would love her after years and years of not finding love anywhere else, as highlighted in the first part of her memoir, where she details past relationships. She criticizes her ex-husband for drinking while she puts herself on a pedestal for being sober. The things she points about about her daughters birth parents as negatives could very likely be used to describe her early life that she so openly shares in the beginning of her book. But what was okay for her at one point was unacceptable for them, in both cases.I got this book for free and so will likely remove it from my Kindle library as I have no desire to revisit it again.

Deborah J. Cornwall is the author of Things I Wish I'd Known: Cancer and Kids (2015) and Things I Wish I'd Known: Cancer Caregivers Speak Out (2012-3). A breast cancer survivor, she has been associated with the American Cancer Society (ACS) and its Cancer Action Network as a volunteer leader since 1994, serving in a variety of local, regional, and national roles and acting as a frequent media spokesperson. She is a member of stakeholder peer research committees to contribute to ACS research funding decisions for grants to early-career researchers at both New England and national levels. In 2013 she was awarded the American Cancer Society's St.George National Award for her contributions to cancer control, and in2014 she received the Lorin Lavidor Caregiver Award from the N.E.Coalition forÂ Cancer Survivorship. Deborah's personal goal is to increase Federal funding for cancer research and to eliminate cancer as a health concern during our lifetimes.Her passion to write the first book (Things I Wish I'd Known: Cancer Caregivers Speak Out) was ignited by her interaction with cancer patients and caregivers at the Society's AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston where she came in contact with people whose survival and caregiving stories were much more dramatic than her own. I have recently become a caregiver for someone with cancer. I've done a lot of research on the internet. This book pointed me in some new directions and gave me some great ideas! I was also impressed by the chapters about how to deal with the end of the cancer battle. That seems a long way away right now, but it helps to think about it now. I hope to implement some ideas that will save us a lot more than this book ever cost!

Deborah J. Cornwall eases the guilt of the compassionate caregiver who may have begun to resent their role even as their concer-stricken loved one struggles with life and death. In "Things I Wish I'd Known: Cancer Caregivers Speak Out, the stories of those who have been there elegantly portray the struggles of those powerless in the face of watching a loved one so ill, but allocated the responsibilities and critical role of being the caregiver. About the Author

Annette Lust's book on BRINGING THE BODY TO THE STAGE AND SCREEN was excellent.It was enlightening for anyone who is in the entertainment field (especially stage work). I highly recommend it if you are a serious actor for either casual reading or in the event you wished to apply her knowledge to your craft.

Annette Lust's latest book, "BRINGING the BODY to the STAGE and SCREEN" is a perfect companion to her "FROM the GREEK MIMES to MARCEL MARCEAU and BEYOND," published in 2000. "Bringing the Body" should be in the library of everyone in theatre, whether performer, teacher, director, writer, or in production. It should be constantly referenced as its material is easily accessed and rich in detail. Starting with the definitions of various movement techniques provided in Chapter One and proceeding chapter by chapter from there, following the steps and diagrams on both movement and breathing, one could possibly teach oneself how to bring one's body to stage and or screen. In Chapters 6 and 7, Dr. Lust describes creating pantomimes and physicalizing the written word from fables, short stories, plays, and more. There are also sections on puppetry, puppeteers, and clowning. One of the many highlights of "Bringing the Body" is her inclusion of interviews with and essays by many movement artists such as Bill Irwin, Geoff Hoyle (both originally from Larry Pisoni's Pickle Family Circus), Dan Kamin on Charlie Chaplin, John Goode of the John Goode Performance Group; Liebe Wetzel on puppetry; and Robert Fleshman on Etienne Decroux, the father of contemporary, corporeal mime. I call these second chance romances the "I just happen to see you now I love you again" romances. That fits better. Grrrr, this book pissed me off in a big way!! Spoilers below if you dont want them, dont read!This book has officially turned me off this author. I never liked all her books, but I liked enough to follow her, but this book treated the heroine horribly, and I am just not going to support authors who havent evolved enough to give heroines some dignity and agency in a story like this where they are horribly betrayed. It's one thing to have Dane sleep with a random girl, but to do it with her best friend, and for that dumb a reason, like to make her leave for her own good is just omg I cant believe readers swoon over loser heros like this. A nineteen year old is fully capable of knowing not to sleep with a girls best friend, and on top of that without a condom. He showed remorse for what he did in the book, but it was so cold and always tinged with this entitlement that he expected forgiveness and a second chance. He tried to make it work with her friend, fell for another girl he lived with, and has constant hookups but we are expected to believe he truly never forgot Neely. He says over and over he barely remembers her lolAs for Neely she is your typical doormat heroine whose body betrays her, and she cant help but fall back into bed with a man who horribly betrayed her for her own good. I would hate to see what he does if he was actually trying to hurt her. She is married to her work (of course), never met a man who measured up (rolls eyes) and never forgot Dane (he sure forgot her). The author has the nerve to use Danes daughter to make Dane a victim, and Neely the bad guy in the situation. Her expressing it isnt fair she has to give up her dreams is meant to be a wrong choice, bc Mia needs a stepmom and Dane has decided Neely will do. But wait, wasnt the reason he horribly betrayed her was because he WANTED her to follow her dreams?! So now because it's his choice for her to stay, it's cool she give up her dream now, invalidating his entire reason for hurting her in the first place.So everyone pressures her to forgive, and move to the town to be a stepmom to the product of an ultimate betrayal against her that no one ever truly apologized for or gave any weight to how many pieces it broke her into. She forgives him basically bc she was his reward for all the women in his life who left him (Katie, sara and even herself) and because he is hot. Horrible rotten story!Also just this double standard that if it had been a mom in the story she prob would have been celibate for ten years, but Dane had constant sex with other women, why couldnt he be in a frozen state since he was a parent? That's what happens right? oh I guess that's only heroines who get that treatment. He had constant sex, unconditional love from his family/friends, and Neely had her work because he drove her out of town for her own good, and she couldnt bear to come back to see any of their family or friends. Why even mention all the women he hooked up with? We didnt need to know about it when you already had him commit this awful sin, then we have to hear about his quickies and other relationships. It pissed me off further!The only thing I liked was that she wasnt celibate, thanks for the crumb I guess, but jokes on you bc I have KU so I didnt pay to read this anyways.Just another dumb story where the hero who did all the wrongs gets off easy, and the heroine gets written to be so happy about it all. What an embarrassment that female authors write this crap! Its 2019, start putting a little more thought and meaning behind a heroines actions and choices. The whole she cant resist him bc he has a hot fictional chest is wearing thin, you might actually have to try to redeem these loser heros now, and actually earn a five star review as opposed to the fake fangirl ones and ones that want to continue to receive ARCs.

Thereâ€™s nothing I love more than a second-chance romance, but a single dad and an adorable, precocious kid are the icing on the cake. However, I should warn you, this one is deceptively evocative. Youâ€™ll be reading along, thinking itâ€™s all smooth sailing with calm waters and sunshine, and then BOOM. With a simple line or two this author delivers a shot to your heart and all of the emotions tumble out.Neely and Dane have quite the past. Childhood friends and high school sweethearts, Dane makes what he thinks is an altruistic choice, borne of love, and breaks up with Neely before she leaves to attend college out of state. He always hoped they would find their way back to each other, but then, in one night of drunken stupidity, Dane's actions put the final nail in the coffin of any reconciliation with Neely. Now, Neely is taking a break from her big city life and back home in Tennessee and, as luck would have it, the first person she runs into is Dane. Although Neely is a kind and generous person, when all the old feelings of both love and devastation rise to the surface, how can she ever forgive Dane for breaking her heart?Tumble is my first book by Ms. Locke, and with it, she has effortlessly secured herself a spot on my list of must-read authors. Circumstances prevented me from reading straight through, and every time, I was annoyed and impatient for life to get out of my way so I could return to Sam and Neely. Their story captivated me from page one and these beautifully flawed but innately good characters captured my heart immediately. Then, before I knew what had even happened, this couple absolutely broke my heart! But I held fast on the journey, through their past heartache, their present challenges and their most touching, poignant moments until finally, their forever was secured.Dane and Neely definitely own a permanent piece of my heart after reading their story. Dane is everything we love to see in a small-town hero, but the way he loves, protects and banters with his daughter had me falling for him all over again. Neely is genuine, caring and giving, while also career minded and driven, and everyone loves her. Although I usually lose patience with a character who seems to be shooting her relationship in the foot, I felt every bit of Neely's struggle, and it all made perfect sense to me. I never stopped pulling for her and Dane to find their happily ever after.I loved everything about this book! From the author's gift of crafting a story and the flawless editing to the charming small town that came vividly alive, this book was such a pleasure to read. The secondary characters are just as complex, colorful and endearing as the main characters, and little Mia and her friends stole the show more than once. With undeniable chemistry and laugh-out-loud moments, the perfect placement of these elements packed just as much of a punch as the emotional component. I read Tumble all in one sitting. I will admit at first I was having a hard time getting into it. Iâ€™m one of those if you donâ€™t grab me from the jump then I get antsy, but once Tumble started rolling (I had to) then I couldnâ€™t put it down! This is a small town, second chance romance that is as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking. Neely left Dogwood Lane for college with a broken heart and never came back. Dane broke that heart. Heâ€™s sorry, but he wouldnâ€™t take it back for anything.I know some readers will have issues with their past and why they are a second chance, but to me it feels real and makes the characters real. If someone stays away for ten years, then their break up has to have been major. I like that the author made the reasons so heavy and hard. Makes Neely staying gone understandable. Not every romance can be easy and peachy.I spent half the book smiling and the other half swapping between sad tears and happy tears. Thereâ€™s a great cast of characters along with the mains. You really get that small town vibe from this one which if you like those stories you know what I mean.Tumble just feels real. Itâ€™s predictable in that feel good way. You know there will be a happy ending just how will we get there. Itâ€™s an emotional ride that will bring you smiles and tears. Whatâ€™s better than that in a contemporary romance?
